Mobile Dairy Classroom Visits

Judith Ingle

October 19, 2022

Garret Wilson with Southwest Dairy Farmers visited Grandview-Hopkins Thursday October the 6th.  He brought his dairy cow and explained that milk, and milk products like ice cream, yogurt, cheese, and others all come from dairy cows.  He talked about how important it is to take good care of the cows, so they are healthy and clean.  It depends on the breed of cow how much it can produce but on average 6 to 8 gallons a day.  He explained how today they use vacuum like process to milk the cow which is much more efficient than by hand.  After milking all the cows, the milk is shipped to a milk factory where it’s pasteurized and homogenized, then bottled and shipped to the store or factories to produce cheese, ice cream or other milk products.  Ask you child all about the cow that came for a visit!
