Behind Our Masks Art Project

Angel Wheeler

September 18, 2020

It has been great being back together again this new school year! I for one have missed these kids and their faces. This school year looks different with some of the new guidelines in place, and we look a little different too. Wearing masks has become part of our daily life. For our first art lesson in second through sixth grade, I wanted to focus on the kind of person they are behind their masks. Because underneath, they’re still a bunch of awesome kids. I need to give credit to a great art teacher named Cassie Stephens for this lesson. The children folded a piece of paper and created a self-portrait of themselves with their masks on. But when they open the folded paper, we can see their beautiful smiles. They then used descriptive words to identify their great qualities. They had a lot of fun making these in this unique and different school year!  Here are some pictures of the 3rd-4th grade Grandview-Hopkins Eagles, and they are nice, funny, smart, loving, friendly, creative, thoughtful, and happy kids behind their masks!
