Nature Field Trip Fun!
October 14, 2021
The 3rd-6th grade traveled to Amarillo for a field trip September 22nd. They went to the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center in Amarillo and the Amarillo Zoo.
The students loved the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center where they went on a hike and observed many different trees, shrubs, and animals. They learned many things. “Back in the day” people used the yucca plant leaves for ropes and baskets, its roots for soap, and the pods as baby rattles. They also ate the beans from the pods of the yucca. The mesquite tree pods and beans were also edible, and the thorns were used as needles.
The favorite part of the zoo seemed to be the talking parrot. What can we get him to say? The zoo was a great place, we saw all kinds of animals, from monkeys to snakes, lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Actually there were no tigers or bears this time, but it was great and there was something for everyone. If you haven’t been in a while, take the time to visit our friendly Amarillo Zoo.
