Mask Requirement Information

March 9, 2021

As you are all aware, on Tuesday March 2nd, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-34 relating to the 100% re-opening of businesses and doing away with the mandatory mask mandate for the state of Texas, along with other guidelines for re-opening the state.

The governing agency for Texas school district, the Texas Education Agency, has a separate set of rules and guidelines that schools are required to follow. In Executive Order GA-34, the Governor said school districts may continue to operate under TEA guidelines, or they may take formal action to follow Executive Order GA-34 instead of the Texas Education Agency guidelines for mask-wearing in schools.

There have been some questions about how all of this affects the rules at the school, and if we have to wear masks starting tomorrow. It's not really that simple, and please know the district will be considering taking formal action on the mask mandate and discussing the possibility of eliminating the mask requirement at the school board meeting this week. Until then, all the current requirements, based on Texas Education Agency guidelines for mask-wearing, will remain in place for students and adults at Grandview-Hopkins ISD.

Thank you for your understanding and we will notify you when any action is taken regarding the mask policy.

Mr. Hargis
