Dear GH Eagle Families,
There is a lot happening here at the school over the summer. Teachers and staff do enjoy a summer break but always have school at the back of their mind. Many teachers and staff are attending professional development over the summer to grow in their craft.
Here are a couple of updates we wanted to share with you.
Mr. Eric Wilson is getting settled in as our new superintendent/principal. He and his wife live in Borger so he will split his time between his Borger home and the home provided by the school. We are excited to have him and look forward to working with him.
Ms. Story, with the help of Mrs. Lu Ann, is maintaining the yard/playground again this spring/summer/fall. They mow, weed-eat and water our baby crepe myrtle tree we were given last fall to commemorate our 100th year!
We are working to rearrange some of the school pictures in the north hall to make room for more pictures! This is such a neat feature and is a highlight of all guests and visitors to our school. If you have not had the opportunity to browse through these pictures, I encourage you to do so next time you get a chance, you may just see someone you know!
We are sad to report that Mrs. Wheeler will not be returning to teach third grade this fall. We have enjoyed having third grade as a self contained classroom, and have seen the benefit of that. However, due to budget constraints* we will not be able to rehire for this position. We are taking this opportunity of transition time to make some big changes in how we structure our classes. We are excited about these changes - all the teachers have a new classroom and something new to teach! We are grateful for our seasoned and flexible teaching staff. They were ready and willing to put in some extra days this summer to move classrooms and organize curriculum and materials.
For the 2026-2027 school year, GH will be structured as follows -
Pre-K/Kindergarten taught by Mrs. Camden,
First & Second Grades taught by Mrs. Davis,
Mrs. Stidham will aid these classes as needed in addition to teaching PE.
The “big kids” will be departmentalized as follows -
3rd-5th Math & 3rd grade homeroom taught by Ms. Story,
3rd-5th English/Language Arts & 5th grade homeroom taught by Mrs. Watson,
3rd-5th Science & Social Studies & 4th grade homeroom taught by Mrs. Ingle,
Mrs. Lu Ann Albus will continue to be the aid for 3rd-5th grades.
A complete master schedule will be posted in August. We believe these changes will help maintain vertical alignment, ensure efficient time on task, increase student engagement and promote higher levels of rigor within the curriculum. As a parent, you will have access to each of your student’s teachers and we will continue to prioritize a collaborative working environment between school and home. We are excited about these changes and think this will benefit all students! We understand families will have some questions regarding these changes, please reach out so we can help with this transition.
*Grandview-Hopkins ISD, like many other districts, is feeling the financial burden of increasing costs, decreasing funding, and increased scrutiny on small, rural schools. Under the guidance of our board of trustees, we are doing our best to be good stewards of the funds we have, but unfortunately this is how things are in public education right now. We continue to be committed to providing a strong foundational education for students pre-k-5th grade. The biggest way you can help is to keep sending us your kiddos and recommending us to your friends! Another thing to keep in mind is attendance. The biggest funding markers that we can control are enrollment and attendance. A new way you can directly support GH students is by contributing to your teacher(s) classroom wishlist. Be looking for these closer to the start of school. We are working to build our enrichment and intervention programs so rest assured all purchases will be used with your kiddos in the classroom. If you are interested in supporting public school funding at a higher level, you may contact our State Representative, Ken King.
If you have any questions about the new teaching assignments, schedule, wish lists, budget or anything else mentioned in this update, please contact Mrs. Camden or Mr. Wilson.
We are looking forward to another great year (our 101st!) at Grandview-Hopkins and can’t wait to see everyone in August. Have a safe summer and be watching for updates as we near the beginning of the school year.
