Subject:             Discontinuation of Sixth Grade at Grandview-Hopkins ISD

Dear Parents,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that a decision has been made to discontinue Sixth Grade at Grandview-Hopkins ISD. We realize having a Sixth Grade class is a long standing practice at Grandview-Hopkins ISD, and this decision has not been made lightly. That being said, we feel it is in the best interest of the students and the school district to make this decision at this time.

Academically, as the curriculum has become more rigorous, it has become more of a challenge to meet the learning needs of two separate grade levels in one classroom. Also, the curriculum that is purchased and used is always divided into K-5 and 6-8, making the purchase of curriculum that fits our academic needs more challenging. Sixth grade enrollment has declined over the years, so adding a separate sixth grade classroom is not a feasible option. Based on these factors and others, Grandview-Hopkins ISD will move forward as a K-5 school district.

Thank you for your support of our school, and if you have any questions or if we can help you in any way, please let us know.

Kent Hargis

Superintendent
