School Calendar Modifications
Make-up Days
October 05, 2021
Parents,
As you are all aware, the students missed six instructional days recently because of illness and staffing shortages at the school. I know you may have questions about possible make-up days, and we want you to be informed as to how that works, and to inform you about any changes that will be made to the school calendar.
Students are required to go to school a minimum of 75,600 minutes each school year. Grandview-Hopkins, along with most other schools, builds extra minutes into the calendar each year. Even though we missed six days of school, we still have three extra days to work with on our calendar. Although we are not in the hole with our days, we will be adding some instructional days back into our calendar as we go along in case we need to miss more school days because of weather, illness, or other reasons.
First of all, we will not be making up any of those days up this week. Students will still be out of school of Friday, October 8th, and Monday, October 12th for the Columbus Day weekend.
That being said, we will be be making the following adjustments to our calendar and school day.
-We will be adding 10 minutes to our instructional day. By doing this for the rest of the year, we can add three days to our calendar.
-November 8 will now be a student instructional day. It is currently a student holiday/Teacher Workday.
-January 4 will also be a student instructional day. It is currently a student holiday/Teacher Workday.
There may be other adjustments necessary as we move through the year, but we will make those adjustments as needed.
Thank you, and let us know if you have any questions,
Mr. Hargis
