Update on Grandview-Hopkins ISD Mask Requirement

March 12, 2021

On Thursday, March 11, 2021, the Board of Trustees of Grandview-Hopkins ISD met and eliminated, by resolution, the requirements to wear face coverings or masks from the Districts COVID-19 protocols as it applies to students, staff and visitors. The following information is part of the adopted resolution that is posted on the Grandview-Hopkins ISD website.

The Grandview-Hopkins ISD Board of Trustees hereby eliminates the requirement to wear face coverings from the Districts existing COVID-19 protocols as it applies to students, staff and visitors. Consistent with the guidance stated in Executive Order GA-34, the district strongly encourages all students, staff, and visitors to wear face coverings when it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household.

In the event of new guidance from the Governor or TEA that indicates face coverings should be worn, if a significant outbreak within the community warrants reconstituting the face covering requirement, or upon order from the County Judge, the Board of Trustees authorizes the Superintendent to reinstitute the mask requirement.

In short, masks are no longer required at school or on the bus, but are certainly still allowed and encouraged as part of our overall wellness plan. If you choose to have your child wear a mask while on the bus or at school, we will certainly support you in that decision. The school will continue to practice many of our prevention and safety protocols. This may include, but is not limited to, taking temperatures, social distancing, and maintaining a high level of sanitation. As parents and caretakers, you have done a great job taking care of your child's health, and the health of others, by not sending your child to school sick. That the is the one of the primary reasons we can lift our mask mandate and begin to move forward. Please continue to be diligent in that area.

Thank you again for all of your support. and have a great Spring Break!

Mr. Hargis
