Grandview-Hopkins End of Year News and Information

May 17, 2020

Well, the end the school year is almost here! It has been said many times, but it really has been a very different, difficult last couple of months for everyone. Once again, l want to tell you how much we appreciate all of you parents and extended family members who have helped your children with their school work, and for providing support in so many other ways to your children. I know it has been a challenging time, and you are to be highly commended for all you have done.

I want to inform and remind you about some things you may want to know as we finish this year, and begin looking towards next year.

For parents of Kindergarten and Sixth Grade students, let me remind you that we will have a drive-up graduation ceremony this Tuesday, May 19th. Kindergarten will begin at 7:00 p.m. and Sixth Grade will begin at 7:30 p.m. The ceremony will take place outside, in front of the school. An email was sent last week with more details to all Kindergarten and Sixth Grade parents. If you didn't get the email or need more information, you may call the office or your child's teacher. Please note that because of the limited parking space, and the need to keep safe distancing, we ask that only family members of those students involved attend these ceremonies.

We are sad that we will not be able to have our regular end of year awards ceremony for all the other students, but we are still going to give end of the year awards to the students. These are being prepared by the teachers and staff, and the awards will be mailed out at the end of the week.

Thank you to all of you who have picked up your child's supplies and belongings that were left at the school. If you have been unable to come pick those up, the school will be open through Thursday of this week. If you can't pick them up this week, we will keep them here at the school until school starts next year.

Many of you may be wondering about the start of school next year, and there have been some stories out there about possibly not starting back to school in August. What we know right now, is that the state has said school calendars are still under local control.  Unless something changes, Grandview-Hopkins ISD is planning on having a regular start to school in August. A  2020-21 calendar has been approved, and as of right now, school will start back on August 19th. We will be sending a copy of the school calendar out this week, along with other things relating to next year.

As always, let us know if we can help you in any way, or if we can answer any questions for you.

Stay well and stay safe.

Mr. Hargis
