End of Year Information from Grandview-Hopkins ISD

May 11, 2020

As the end of this really different school year draws to an end, I want to thank you again for all your support for the students and the school since this all started. Even though it has been a really trying and unusual end to the school year, I know you have all done the best you could to provide the support and help for the at-home instruction packets that were sent home from the school. I also know many of you went above and beyond what the school provided, and your children will benefit from all that you have done to try and keep them engaged in learning.

Along that line, and as reminder, last Friday was the last day for packet pick up. We will have the school open this week for you to drop off whatever packets you still have at home, pick up your child's school supplies, and gather up other things left in the building and classrooms. The teachers have bagged up the supplies and other items left in the classroom, and we will have them ready for you when you come out. You will be allowed to come in the building, or we can set them in the foyer for you to pick up if you would be more comfortable with doing it that way. All of the social distancing and safe practices are still in place, but it is allowable for you to come in the building to pick up school supplies and turn things in as necessary.

This will also be a time for you turn in library books, pay lunch bills, turn in registration papers, or take care of other business as needed. In order to make this as convenient as possible, we will have the building open, and Mrs. Brown or myself will be in the office from 9:00-3:00 each day this week. The building will also be open from 5:00-6:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday if you are not able to come out here during the day. If you need to make other arrangements, call the school or your child's teacher, and we will help you however we can.

We will be in contact with the kindergarten and sixth grade parents today asking you about your thoughts on a graduation ceremony next week.I would like to have some parent input before finalizing things, so I will be talking to you about what it would look like. Once again, the rules for all this keep changing, but as of last week there has been some clarification on what is allowable. The rules still do not allow for us to do anything in the building, but we are making tentative plans to have an outdoor, drive up type of ceremony, and so we will try to see what we can do.

There are already questions about the start of school next year, and as of right now, most the schools in our area, including Grandview-Hopkins, are planning on starting as normal in August, and just going from there. We have found out through the course of this pandemic that things can certainly change, but that is the plan at this time. We will be sending out a school calendar, school supply lists and other information in the next few weeks.

Thank you again, and please let us know if you have questions or need information about anything. Our regular office hours for the next two weeks will be 9:00-3:00.

Mr. Hargis
